Wind and Shadow by Tori L. Ridgewood

Wind and Shadow (The Talbot Trilogy #1)Book Description:
Rayvin Woods, photographer and natural witch. She just wanted to start her life over again after a series of misadventures. She didn't count on rekindling a lost love when she came home to Talbot...or battling a malevolent vampire and his coven for her life.

Grant Michaels, police officer. He thought Rayvin was a murderer. He will do whatever it takes to protect the community he loves from danger...but will he learn to trust his heart, and the word of a witch, before it's too late?

Malcolm de Sade, cunning vampire, imprisoned underground for a year by Charlotte Fanning and Pike Mahonen ("Mist and Midnight", Midnight Thirsts). His accidental release unleashes his hunger and ambition on a small, sleepy town…

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed the majority of this book.  Rayvin was run out of her home town of Talbot years ago with everyone thinking she was a cold blooded murderer.  Now she has come back out of necessity, but also to be closer to her best friend.  She has never forgotten Grant Michaels or how he, like everyone else in town, had glared condemningly at her as she walked out of town.  Grant had never wanted anyone as much as he wanted Rayvin, but she was off limits.  She'd tried to kill his best friend so it didn't matter that she made his blood boil every time she was around.
I liked the tension between Rayvin and Grant.  It was obvious from the start that they would either kill each other or fall in love.  The vampire was a creepy character and I really wanted to know the back story on him, it is eluded to but I think I may have missed a book explaining how he got trapped to begin with.  The problems starting in town the moment Rayvin arrived only made people more sure that she was trouble and made her determined to not give a dang!  Overall, Rayvin was a great female lead and I loved her, up until the last few chapters and then her character seemed to change quite a lot.
I rate this a 3/5.  I will read the next in the series to see where it goes because I'm hoping the heroine is just 'suppressed' at the moment.
