Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter

Dancing with Fireflies (Chapel Spring #2)Book Description:
Jade returns home to Chapel Springs after years of protecting her fragile heart. Then along comes Daniel, making her long to dance again.

Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she'd never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He's loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she's back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she's hiding secrets from her family, and she's strangely attracted to the man who's always called her "squirt." Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book.  Jade has left her family because her love has been killed.  She has not dated and she doesn't want to.  As she goes to school, she waits tables, and finally agrees to a date.  She gets date-raped and she goes home.  Through a series of events, she needs to tell the family but things happen where it can't happen.  Daniel is the mayor of her home town and is going to help Jade.  He figures out her secret and is determined to help her, even if she doesn't want it.
I loved that Daniel was such a good guy.  Jade had so many problems and was trying so hard to just take care of everything herself that it was great to have Daniel there.  Daniel was being groomed for other things but the fact that he'd been in love with Jade since they were younger was a good addition.  I love that God was woven through the story and that the author handled some really delicate subjects with great care.  I will absolutely be reading more from this author!
This was a 5/5.  It was a good romantic book with some serious issues.
