A Very Levet Christmas by Alexandra Ivy

Book Description

A gargoyle of Levet’s charm and intelligence should not be facing a solitary Christmas. True, he may appear a little unconventional—not to mention unconventionally little—even for a gargoyle. But what Levet lacks in height he makes up for in loyalty, and being banned from the festivities surrounding the Queen of Weres’ new pups is quite unfair.
So when a beautiful Christmas angel begs for help in fulfilling her duties, Levet has nothing better to do than agree. Armed with a magical wand, Levet confronts Damon, a pureblood Were intent on seizing the throne. Challenging the King will put the pups at risk—and drive away Damon’s potential mate, Gia. Who better to convince Damon to choose love, not war, than a gargoyle expert in amour? With a little magic, and a lot of Levet, this may yet be a truly wonderful Christmastime…
My Thoughts:
I love Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series and this novella is no different!  Levet is excited to go and meet Harley's babies, except he hasn't been invited.  The king of the Werewolves isn't having anyone into the house except those within the pack, and that is only because he must.  With hurt feelings, Levet leaves and runs across a Christmas angel with a problem.  He is the one to solve the problem both for the angel and for Harley's babies.
I really like Levet throughout the series.  He is such a great guy (gargoyle), but has crummy luck with love.  He is in love with women in general and generally his purpose is varied.  This book is centered on him though instead of him being a secondary character.  He is willing to do anything to save his family, even if they don't consider him family, and loves them all regardless.  His attitude through the whole thing was just perfect and I can't wait to read more about him in the coming books!
This is a 5/5.  If you have read the series, you will love it.  If you haven't read the series, you will still enjoy it!

Going Gone by Sharon Sala

Book Description:

The final storm of the season could be their last.

After barely escaping death when her plane crashed deep in the Rocky Mountains during a snowstorm, Laura Doyle is left with a lingering fear for her life. Her lover, FBI agent Cameron Winger, reassures her that he found her then and always will. But Laura is right to be afraid, because when their engagement is announced it signals to a madman that it's time for his killing spree to begin again.

Twice thwarted by Cameron and his partners, the Stormchaser pairs random acts of God with deliberate acts of evil. His final act of vengeance will finish his twisted vendetta by taking from Cameron the thing he loves most: Laura.

As law enforcement struggles to connect the gruesome murders he's committed to mask his return, the Stormchaser draws closer to his true target. But Cameron and Laura don't realize they're in the eye of the storm—and this time, being unprepared for the onslaught could spell disaster.

My Thoughts:
Awesome book.  Laura is the only survivor of a plane crash and uses all her resources to stay alive until the rescue team can get to her.  Cameron and the rescuers search for survivors and Laura is the only one found.  After they make it back, they announce their engagement and that starts a series of trouble.  Stormchaser is determined to get Laura and exact his revenge on the three agents.  Cameron and Laura try to guard against trouble, but it seems there is no way out of this particular storm unscathed.
This book starts off with action and never lets go.  Cameron is such a strong character and wonderful man.  He and is determined to protect Laura.  Laura is resourceful and not easily frightened.  I loved getting back into this series and these characters.  The story line flowed and was intense.  Once I started, I couldn't put this one down and read it all in one sitting.
Absolutely a 5/5.  Perfect ending to this series.

Two Empty Thrones by C.H. MacLean

Two Empty Thrones (Five in Circle, #2)Book Description:
With her powers growing every day, fourteen-year-old Haylwen Rightad thinks she’s safe in the magical forest. And now that she finally has the friends she always wanted, what is there to be afraid of?
But she’s not out of the woods yet. Old enemies rip through her beloved forest, threatening to haul Haylwen and her newfound friends away. Their safety shattered, Haylwen and her friends are suddenly at each other’s throats. Is the friendship she worked so hard for already ruined, or is there another, unseen enemy at work?
Haylwen and her brother must unmask this mysterious enemy before they can fight it off. But even if all their enemies are destroyed, the King of the magic users will stop at nothing to ensure he’s still in power when the dragons take over the world. And he’s hidden an enemy where Haylwen would never think to look.
If no one is what they seem, who can she trust?
With a mysterious prophecy, magical secrets and dragons, Two Empty Thrones is the second book following siblings Haylwen and Cadarn as they face their fears and come to discover they have powers they never dreamt of — and a destiny only they can fulfill.

My Thoughts:
Good book!  Haylwen is now in the forest and safe.  She is happy with everything, especially having friends.  She and her brother, Cadarn, have been through much but it looks like more is to come.  The safety and peace aren't to last.  Apparently, neither are the much cherished friendships as they start querrling and basically hating each other...then again maybe there is someone or something else causing all this trouble?  The siblings must figure out what is going on before everything they've grown to love is destroyed.
I still love the characters in these books.  I felt how they wanted friends and safety, then their satisfaction/happiness at getting those.  The fear they felt when everything began to come unraveled.  I think the author did a great job with the story line.  Magic, dragons and young adults....it was a great combination.  The first book was good and the second even better.  Loved this book!  5/5.  You need to read the first book, One is Come first but both books are great.

All My Belongings by Cynthis Ruchti

All My BelongingsBook Description:
A new life and a new identity can’t protect Becca from a past that refuses to go away.
After spending years running from the shame her father put on her family, Jayne is determined not to let him steal her future in the same way he stole her childhood. Changing her name to Becca Morrow, she moves to California and settles into a new life and new job caring for ailing mother of handsome young businessman, Isaac Hughes.
But just as she’s wondering if she and Isaac are headed for a relationship, Becca’s patient passes away under unusual circumstances. Suddenly, her past catches up with her and the unnerving details of her heritage threaten to destroy all sense of home and all hope for love.
Even if she could clear her name, a phone call wraps a suffocating shroud around her heart. Her estranged father needs her help. But can Becca open her new life to the man who ruined her past?

My Thoughts:
I completely enjoyed this book.  Becca is determined not to let her father's past destroy her future.  He may have been a doctor Kervorkian copycat, but that wasn't her.  After changing her name and getting a job tending to an elderly lady, life is settling down.  That is until the lady dies under suspicious circumstances and Becca's past comes out.  When the past comes, it comes in full force and may destroy everything she has worked hard for.
I really liked Becca.  She tried to hide her identity for, what I thought, was a good reason.  I felt bad that what her father had done was such a burden for her.  Then when things started going her way, then went drastically wrong, I was crushed.  I don't think I could help someone that had tainted my life so badly but maybe if I was in that position I could?  I just don't know.  I do know the author did a great job with this story and I will look for more books from her!
Solid 5/5 for me.  This book faced tough questions head on.

Image (Insight #3) (Web of Hearts and Souls #3)Book Description:
There is an ominous darkness; one that is so dense and mind-numbing that you can feel the chills race across your skin as the energy of its hatred hovers near you. They thought that it was over… that he was dead… they never imagined that he was more powerful dead than he ever was alive.
The dark dimension Esterious is on the brink of war, the victory Willow had a few days ago is nothing more than a vague memory. With each thought she has, she fights the images of Drake’s dark eyes and his words… his promises. Doubt seeps into her soul as she faces what could be the hardest battle she has faced so far.
Venus is meant to be the planet of love and peace… but when it falls into retrograde its influence changes. Matters of past relationships will surface, choices will be made with the mind and not the heart and gateways to an evil that cannot be fathomed will open. Willow and Landen’s only defense is to hide their family away, and lock themselves in the palace that was once ruled by Donalt.
The energy is heavy and dark within its walls…there is a presence that lingers and strikes at will. Cruel illusions are placed before Willow, but that is not even the hardest part… what is hard is standing in a room with Drake and Landen and listening to others tell you of lives that you cannot recall… for them to tell you when and how you are going to die.
Every prediction and theory is about to be proven wrong… and the choice before Willow’s heart holds the lives of millions at stake. The question is: will she be able to see through the illusions before her and make a choice… she can live with?

My Thoughts:
I couldn't wait to read this book!  It is the 3rd in this series and just great.  Willow and Landen have made it through two trials already believing that Drake is the 'bad guy'.  In this trial though, they must  partner with him to make sure none of them are taken by Donalt's evil.  In the palace, they and their protectors try to unravel what will happen before it comes to pass.  Not remembering past lives and loving another, Willow is torn.  While she is completely devoted to Landen, Drake's problems have tugged on her heart.
I still love how Landen and Willow have been destined but kept apart, only to find each other again.  Drake is a wonderfully sad character.  I have no doubt that he loves Willow but he has to come to terms with her being with Landen.  Landen is much more understanding than any other soul-mate would be.  I enjoyed finding out about their pasts, seeing their families again and especially Preston and Libby.  I believe those two little ones are my favorites.
Solid 5/5 for me.  I love the way this author writes and cannot wait to read more from her.

Nowhere to Turn by Lynette Eason

Nowhere to Turn (Hidden Identity, #2)Book Description:
The day Danielle Harding takes her 11-year-old son, Simon, and flees from her abusive husband, is the same day Kurt Harding dies. A relieved Dani believes she and her son are finally safe--but in reality, the danger has just begun. When Kurt was alive, he took something important to a mysterious person. That person wants the item back and believes Dani now has it. As she and her son run for their lives, they have nowhere to turn, until she hires Adam Buchanan of Operation Refuge and goes into hiding. Unfortunately, she won't be able to hide for long . . .

From the first breathless scene, this tension-laced story will hold readers in its iron grip. Bestselling author Lynette Eason propels readers along at a breakneck pace in a race to discover the truth and a better future.

My Thoughts:
I completely enjoyed this book.  Dani is getting away from her abusive husband.  She is taking her son, Simon, and going to disappear where Kurt can never hurt them again.  The interesting twist is the day she chooses to leave, Kurt is killed.  Now she believes she and Simon are free...only their problems are just beginning.  She now has to take Simon and run for their lives from a new threat (or two) and runs to Adam Buchanan and Operation Refuge for help.
I have to say that I completely disliked Kurt and his family!  That being said, they were written that way for a reason and the author did great on them.  Dani might think she is weak but I like how Adam sees her strength in the first meeting.  There were parts I laughed, parts I wanted to yell at the characters, and parts that I reread because they were just awesome.
5/5 for me!  I enjoyed the whole story, suspense, romance and all of it written superbly well!

Danger at the Border by Terri Reed

Book Description:

UNSAFE TERRITORY

When a mysterious toxin threatens lives and livelihoods near the border between the U.S. and Canada, Dr. Tessa Cleary is called to trace the source. But when the no-nonsense doctor is forced to work with border patrol agent Jeff Steele, she finds the lone wolf's dedication to his job—and country—chipping away at the walls around her heart. Just as Tessa and Jeff are about to uncover the toxin's deadly source, armed thugs kidnap them in the forest. Now they must trust each other to survive before time runs out for everyone.

Northern Border Patrol: Keeping the U.S.–Canadian border safe

My Thoughts:
This one was pretty good.  Dr. Tessa is called in to find the source of water contamination in a lake up on the US/Canada border.  Jeff Steele is a border patrol agent and is determined to stick with Tessa during her investigation.  When they get close to the source of the toxin, they get pulled into a mess that no one expected even existed.  Though each have been hurt in the past, Tessa and Jeff feel a pull toward each other that makes them each think the other just might be trustworthy.
I liked Tessa and Jeff.  I thought his protective streak was great and understood why it endeared him to her.  I also liked that both of them were determined to not let the attraction go anywhere.  When they were in danger, both looked out for the other.  The bad guys were twisted and creepy.  Overall, the couple trusted each other and God to get them out of the mess they were in and nothing happened like expected but happened in His time.
This is a 4/5 for me.  It was a good romance with some suspense.
