Book Description:
After a disastrous Middle East mission ends his six-year Army Ranger career, Finn McGregor needs some downtime. A peaceful month in the woods sounds like the perfect way to decompress. But peace isn't on the agenda once he crosses paths with publishing executive Dana Lewis, a neighbor who is nursing wounds of her own. Someone seems bent on disrupting her stay in the lakeside cabin she inherited from her grandfather. As Finn and Dana work together to discover who is behind the disquieting pranks, the incidents begin to take on a menacing tone. And when it becomes apparent Dana's foe may have deadly intent, Finn finds himself back in the thick of the action--ready or not.
Bestselling author Irene Hannon draws readers into a web of psychological suspense where danger lurks in dark corners . . . and keeps them captive until the very last page.
My Thoughts:
Great book! I've read the previous books in this series so I was excited to read Finn's story. That being said, it would stand alone fine if you've not read the other two (though I highly recommend them!). Finn is needing to have some chill and reflect time so he is 'hiding out' and thinking things through. Dana is having issues of her own and needing quiet to work through them.
I really liked Dana right off the bat. If you've read Ms. Hannon's work before, you know neither character is going to get quiet reflection time and there is going to be plenty of action and suspense. I like the chemistry between Dana and Finn. He is there when she needs him but she isn't a slouch either.
5/5!! Just a really great book.

My Thoughts:
This book tugs at you and makes you think. Angela is going to meet the brother of the man who gave his life for her. She has wanted to for a long time but now it seems there are people that don't want that meeting to happen. Dan was there with Angela and remembers what happened. He has his own issues to work through from that time but it is much simplier to work on others than focus on himself.
The story is well paced. I liked and disliked several of the characters. Some were just evil and some were being blackmailed into doing bad things. I felt bad because I could see how the bad guy got into what he did, though his tactics were terrible! It is understandable why people would go along with it and even reach out for it. Angela and Dan were good characters and I liked how both were flawed but still working for what is right.
3/5 for me. A good, quick, clean read.

My Thoughts:
I really do enjoy the K-9 unit stories! Shane is going back to prove himself to his dad and older brothers. He may have issues but he is just as much of a cop as any of them. Gina is running from the past, well really her brother and the past. Since she turned him in, he is determined she must pay.
I liked the interactions between Shane and Gina. Though he was somewhat of a jerk to start, he made up for it. Since both of them have their own issues to deal with, it makes it good that they can work through them together. The author does a good job with all the characters. I read these books out of order but that didn't change anything other than I knew the characters and their stories better. I still want to know exactly what is going on in this formerly sleepy little town!
4/5, I want more of these k-9 stories!

Christian's Hope by Ervin R. Stutzman
Book Description:
When Christian Hochstetler returns to the Amish after seven years in captivity, he finds that many things have shifted. Captured as a child during the French and Indian War, Christian has spent much of his life among Native Americans, who cared for him and taught him their ways. Now that Christian is home, his father wants him to settle back into their predictable Amish life of farming, and Christian's budding friendship with Orpha Rupp beckons him to stay as well.
Yet Christian feels restless, and he misses his adoptive Native American family--who raised him as their own son. When faced with a life-altering decision, will Christian choose the Amish identity that his father desires for him? Or will he depart from his family and faith community yet again?
"Christian's Hope" tells the story of the younger brother of Joseph and son of Jacob, whom readers have come to love in the first two books in the Return to Northkill series. Based on actual events and written by a descendant of the Hochstetler family, "Christian's Hope" brings the sweeping epic of the Return to Northkill series to a soul-stirring end.
My Thoughts:
I liked this story. Christian has been held captive for years and now is able to go back to his Amish life he was so violently jerked out of. The problem is he has lived years without the Amish ways and in the Native American life. He doesn't easily slide back into the 'old life style' and wants to go back to what he has lived the last years.
I felt so bad for Christian and his father. That was a terrible ordeal to go through but they survived. I wasn't sure how to feel about some of the issues because I really could see both sides. I'm not certain there was a right or wrong for those situations because each person is different. I also liked that this is based on a true story. That added and interesting element for me!
I enjoyed it 4/5 for me.

Capitol K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest cases with the help of their brave canine partners
My Thoughts:
I just love the K-9 Unit. Gavin's job is to protect and serve. He and Glory (his k-9 partner) are investigating a murder when they come across Cassie. Cassie has had a stressful night of her own trying to evade a man with murder on his mind. I just loved Cassie's heart for kids. She has her own past but she does love the kids as if they are her own.
Gavin has his own past, slightly similar to Cassie's, that has taught him how to help kids cope with stress. Their similar backgrounds make both of them wary of people, but both have always wanted/needed love. With the kids in danger and trying to keep Cassie safe, Gavin has his hands full. He isn't an over-the-top cop but a really well written one that is very likable.
It was a 4/5 for me. I still have questions that hopefully are answered in the next one!

My Thoughts:
I was so excited that Jayson and Layla got their book! I've followed them through the last couple books and was hoping things would work out for them. Jayson is so desperate to be worthy of Layla that he will do anything! Layla doesn't know how to show him that he is already perfect for her. When he decides to go all rogue on her and go into danger, she will do anything to protect him.
I really liked the dynamic between Layla and Jayson when he finally got past his pity-party state. I liked the teenagers and how involved they were throughout. The secondary story going on is one that I am so ready to know how it finally turns out and who the big guy was that helped out! This series is just a really good one and you don't have to read them in order but I would recommend doing so!
It was a 4/5 for me. I really enjoy this series!

My Thoughts:
This was an ok book. Claudia is an awesome pilot. Michael is a hard core D-Boy. The two of them together make a perfect team. Both of them are quiet and haven't really wanted to be in relationships. I really liked how Claudia and Michael first met. It wasn't a typical meeting, and the way they connected was really neat.
I laughed at their little jokes that only they caught. So, the story line with this one was pretty good. Just a love romance in an elite group. I had issues connecting with both the main characters, I just didn't click with them. Still, it was a good story and the cover is really great!
It was a 3/5 for me.

My Thoughts:
I was so very excited to get this book. I loved Cursed (book 1 in this series) and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It picks up where Cursed left off with the same wonderful characters that you will absolutely fall in love with in book one. Elea searching for her sisters and hitting a lot of dead ends. Rowan is there once again and still strong and sexy.
There were parts of this book that I absolutely loved and parts I hated. The author definitely takes you on an emotional roller coaster in this one! There is love, betrayal, friendship (both new and old), deception and a whole lot more wrapped up into this dynamite package! If you haven't read Cursed, you really need to read it, and then pick up Concealed and hold on tight. I am waiting extremely impatiently for the third book now to see what happens to these characters that I'm so invested in!
A 5/5, absolutely!

My Thoughts:
Really liked this book. Eric is an alpha wolf, but he isn't the leader of his pack. He is happy to let his cousin run it and do his own thing. Pepper is an alpha with her own pack to protect. She doesn't need or want a mate. I really enjoyed watching Eric and Pepper's relationship. It wasn't ever that she didn't like him, she just didn't want to give anyone else control. So a power struggle is exactly what I expected to happen.
Eric wasn't exactly what I expected. He was all alpha but he did defer to Pepper. It was nice to see an alpha that also used his mind as well as his brawn to get what he wanted. The packs meeting was great and I met several characters that I want to know a lot more about and hope there are future books about. Several different ways this story could have gone but I was completely happy with how it all turned out.
A 4/5 for me. I completely enjoy Ms. Spear's books!

Family Sins by Sharon Sala
Book Description
MURDER IN EDEN
Felled by a cowardly shot to the back, Stanton Youngblood has just enough time before he dies to leave a single clue to his killer's identity: the word Wayne, scrawled in his own blood.
That word means everything to his widow. Leigh Youngblood was once Leigh Wayne, but she left her wealthy family behind thirty years ago when she fell in love with Stanton, a betrayal the Waynes have never forgiven. Now she publicly vows to discover which of her siblings thinks money and power are enough to cover up a murder.
Back in town to find his father's killer, prodigal son Brody finds his search for justice comes with an unexpected ray of light. He's loved Talia Champion forever, but when she said she couldn't marry him, he left town and never looked back. This time it's Talia who needs him, and it isn't in him to deny her anything.
But the killer still has a score to settle, and if that means spilling more blood—so much the better.
My Thoughts:
Great book. Leigh is completely in love with her husband Stanton. When he is murdered, he leaves a clue that she has no problems interpreting. She had been disowned by her family for marrying 'beneath' them and this was their revenge. My heart broke when I read Leigh's reaction to her love's murder. Then, her sons losing their father, oh my gosh, horrible.
Brody had left home because Talia had turned down his proposal. Now he is back to find who murdered his father and realizes there was more to Talia's rejection than he had ever imagined. Their rekindling of the relationship was great. I loved that in the book, though it did add another 'target' for the killer! The family dynamic in the story is great and I can't say enough about the writer's ability to weave an enthralling story. Family can be your best friends, or your worst enemies.

Wings of Danger: The path to love is treacherous
My Thoughts:
This was a good, quick read. Keeley's sister was murdered several years ago. Since then, she has been looking over her shoulder because the murderer escaped. Mick blames himself for allowing the man his freedom to kill Keeley's sister. When he catches word that the guy is back, and in Keeley's hometown, he can't help but go investigate.
I really liked how the author did her characters in this book. The way Keeley and Mick met (or met again) was great! I liked that he was willing to put himself between her and harm. The secret she is keeping, isn't as much of a secret as she thinks and may just be the reason the man is back and after her! The story line was good, I guessed most of the big 'reveals' but it was still a good read.
A 3/5 for me. Really a good, quick, clean read.

Red's Tangled Tale - Cover Reveal
Everyone knows the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Well, at least they think they do. History would have many believe Red was a naïve little girl who brought treats to her grandmother in the dark of the forest. History had it wrong.
After the curse of the wolves came to Timbergard, Red’s father was the only soul brave enough to enter Blakx Forest. However, when the wolves claimed his life, his young daughter took up his bow and began hunting the beasts to fill her need for revenge.

The Sea Keeper's Daughters by Lisa Wingate
Book Description:
Wingate's third Carolina book follows the highly reviewed, The Prayer Box and The Story Keeper as well as related three novellas.
From modern-day Roanoke Island to the sweeping backdrop of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains and Roosevelt’s WPA folklore writers, past and present intertwine to create an unexpected destiny. . .
Restaurant owner Whitney Monroe is desperate to save her business from a hostile takeover. The inheritance of a decaying Gilded Age hotel on North Carolina’s Outer Banks may provide just the ray of hope she needs. But things at The Excelsior are more complicated than they seem. Whitney’s estranged stepfather is entrenched on the third floor, and the downstairs tenants are determined to save the historic building. Searching through years of stored family heirlooms may be Whitney’s only hope of quick cash, but will the discovery of an old necklace and a depression-era love story change everything.
My Thoughts:
Intriguing and enthralling book. Whitney is struggling but determined and quite desperate to save her restaurants. When life intervenes and she has to search through family heirlooms, she finds a startling surprise and perhaps the way to save her business. Going from past to present and the two different story lines was quite enjoyable for me.
This is apparently in a series but stands alone just fine. I felt bad for everything Whitney was having to deal with but rooted for her throughout. The book shows how people make good and bad decisions and the effects they have.
4/5 for me, I want to read the other 2 books in this series because I really enjoyed this one!
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via bookfun magazine). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Deadlock by DiAnn Mills
Book Description:
Two murders have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder?
That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who is eager for her new assignment in violent crimes but anxious about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their investigative styles couldn’t be more opposite: he operates on instinct, while she goes by the book.
When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat and brings them closer together, and a third victim might yield the clue that will help them zero in on a killer. This could be the case of their careers . . . if they can survive long enough to solve it.
My Thoughts:
This one caught my attention from the start and kept it the whole way through. I liked Bethany and Thatcher. They were mismatched, but yet a good fit. I wanted to know from the start, and just couldn't figure out who the murderer was. I thought I had it figured out a couple of times but nope!
Thea author added some very real violence and touchy subjects but I thought she handled them really well. For me this was a book that I did not want to put down. If it had been possible, I would have devoured it in one sitting. Mills just flat out knows how to write romantic suspense!
It is a keeper. 5/5.

Messed up Men of the Bible by Tina & Dave Samples
Book Description:
From schlubby sitcom heroes to mommy blogs to online articles, there is a broad cultural perception that men constantly mess up and women must fight an uphill battle to fix them. Men are a burden, constant works-in-progress, pushed toward perfection but always falling short. This book asks a revolutionary question: What if these messed-up men are actually a mighty tool for God?
Tina and Dave Samples remind us that the Bible is filled with a cast of messed-up men--men who struggled and fell, and yet were used by God to accomplish His purposes. In fact, God has consistently chosen imperfect "clay pots" in which to place His light.
David was a poor father. Peter had problems with integrity. Moses had anger issues, Gideon struggled with fear, and Elijah suffered from depression--the list goes on. "Messed Up Men of the Bible" offers encounters with these ancient men who faced the same emotions and questions that contemporary men face, in order to reveal fresh spiritual insights and hope for modern relationships. Through personal stories, practical advice, and useful exercises, Tina and Dave provide encouragement and hope for women dealing with the messed-up men in their own lives.
My Thoughts:
I liked this book simply because of the title. It is a book that does exactly what the name suggests and tells us about men from the Bible that were far from perfect. They struggled with many of the same things that men today struggle with. Still, God used those men for His purposes. This is a book written about men but it is geared toward women.
I liked that it made men's flaws that women might complain about less of an issue. That isn't to say that they aren't still issues but it was more of how to help and encourage instead of nag and annoy. The men in our lives aren't perfect and may be really messed up but God can still use them and we can still be helpmates to them. I liked that it was a positive outlook on the whole thing!
It was a 5/5 for me. I'm keeping it as a reminder.

Nowhere to Hide by Sigmund Brouwer
Book Description:
William King and Blake Watt have just settled into their senior year of high school when they receive a call for help—the authorities need to use their computer skills to track down a father who has failed to make child-support payments. The invitation to become cyber bounty hunters is so tempting, they don’t stop to ask why they were chosen for this assignment.
As they learn more about the man they are searching for, they discover the true nature of their mission—to help the founder of a Seattle-based software company prove that he is innocent of a much different charge. But the scariest things they learn are why they were chosen and why they were supposed to remain in the background.
You’ll love following the surprising twists and turns in this fast-paced young-adult thriller from a gifted storyteller who has nearly three million books in print.
My Thoughts:
This is a fast-paced young adult book. I didn't realize it was the second in a series, but I assume reading the first book would clear up some of the confusion I had. This book centers around King. I really grew to like him and the other characters in the book and loved the pacing through the story.
These boys have been asked to work for the CIA doing cyber bounty hunting (I didn't even know that was a thing!). There are twists and turns and uncertainty about who to trust or even who is good and who is bad! The three boys that are at the center of everything really do keep you entertained and rooting for them.
It was a 4/5 for me. I think I would have rated it a 5/5 if I had read the first book in the series.

Storm of Arranon by RE Sheahan
Book Description:
Beneath Erynn's petite build, curly red hair, and startling blue eyes, lies a deeply hidden secret. If the truth about her were revealed, her life would be in danger. Her dream to be a fighter pilot would tailspin, crash, and burst into flames.
Jaer's wise brown eyes reflect his smoldering strength. An enigma, charismatic and moody, he is a physically powerful warrior who defends his world. A warrior afraid to love because of mistakes in his past.
When the presence of a marauding alien society is discovered on their planets, a struggle of life and death begins. Both Erynn and Jaer's worlds face annihilation.
A mysterious force plunges Erynn into Jaer's cold, dangerous, and beautiful world with its magical essence and living consciousness. Both the alien enemy and this strange inexplicable power purse Erynn.
My Thoughts:
I liked this one. It starts off in such a way that had me intrigued so reading on was a must! Erynn is just a determined girl, or so she thinks. Beneath all her 'normal' is something extremely unique. Her powers have always been something she has hidden and thought were a big secret. I liked the different planets and the war between the two and the alien race. The story overall is very good and I like the mix of genres here.
The author did a great job with her characters. I liked Erynn pretty much all the way around. She is strong, but kind, compassionate and smart. Jaer is tough and a protector. This book is obviously the set up and start of a series with all the information and characters given and the author does a good job of making it memorable and not confusing.
It was a 4/5 for me. I am extremely interested to see what happens next.

Nevermore by Erica Reeder
Book Description:
didn’t sign up to be a comic book hero.
So why did I suddenly find the fate of all of these fae in my hands? Yes, I rescued them. But didn’t a girl get a break when her heart was freshly broken? If the Boogeyman was sent to hunt you down, it turned out the answer to that was a big fat no.
I’d be damned if Mother was going to keep me at Knockany though. She couldn’t keep me here if I got rid of my wings. So that’s what I’d set out to do. I was just lucky enough that Anthony could help me. Because how else was I going to find werewolves’ blood, dragon scales, and a whole slew of other ingredients like that on my own? The problem is love can slip in among the chaos. Plus you never know who you can trust. And it isn’t long before I realize that turning your back on destiny is a dangerous game.
Read what’s being called "Great for True Blood fans!" and "This author rates right up there with Laurell K Hamilton, Charlene Harris (True Blood)."
My Thoughts:
I was excited when I won a copy of this book. It picks right up where the first one leaves off and Cy is once again stuck being the reluctant hero. I was happy to be back in this world and with Cy. I did miss the little pixie and her sassy character but maybe she will be more present in the next book. Anyway, Cy is taking those she rescued home and trying to avoid getting caught up in a world she wants nothing to do with.
I felt bad that she can't trust really anyone and their intentions. She wants to get out of Knockany and back to her life but having wings has complicated everything. If she could only figure out how to get rid of them without making herself disappear, everything would be perfect. Anthony, now he is a character I really like! He is protective, kind, with a jealous streak a mile wide! I'm intrigued by her connection that she tries to ignore and so curious how the author is going to handle that in future books. The set up for the next book is there and I cannot wait to see what happens.
It was a 5/5 for me. You need to read book 1 so you know exactly what is going on but once you do, you will be hooked!

Paths of Destiny by Cris Pasqueralle
Book Description:
Wizard twins Jack and Maddie Austin have been separated, finding their own paths while discovering their powers. In this continuation of Destiny Revealed, Jack wants nothing more than to defeat the evil Tardon, a constant threat to his family's lives, but Maddie has been given a different perspective. Only when the two are reunited can the truth be exposed. As new friends and enemies join the adventure, only one thing is certain: the twins are stronger when they're together, and together, they can defeat evil once and for all.
My Thoughts:
This is the second in this series and really just as good as the first. This one picks up shortly after Destiny Revealed ended and shows where Jack and Maddie are and what they have been doing. Jack still has issues and is sometimes still a sullen kid, but I loved watching him grow and change. Maddie is still naive and sweet but is coming into her own. The characters that we get to know and love in book one are here again.
There is an emotional roller coaster through this book with betrayal on several levels, tough decisions, jealousy, and danger. Most of the new characters we met, I liked. Some I wasn't sure about to begin with but the author did a good job weaving them into the story and making them a part of it all. Overall, this series is great.
I bought this one because my kids enjoyed the first one so much and I have to say, they loved this one as well and are impatiently waiting on book 3 to come out!
It was a 5/5 for us. Great continuation on this story.

Destiny Revealed by Cris Pasqueralle
Book Description:
On the day of their 13th birthdays, twins Jack and Maddie Austin receive a special gift from their Uncle Benny: two necklaces, along with a note shrouded in secrecy. The celebration is interrupted by three intruders, led by the evil being Tardon, who kidnaps the twin's parents. Uncle Benny manages to escape with the twins and later, reveals the truth behind both their gifts and identities: that Jack and Maddie are powerful wizards from the magical realm. Now, faced with the decision of a lifetime, they must return to that realm, rescue their parents and save all the realms from imminent doom.
My Thoughts:
This was a really good book. I started listening to it in my car and then restarted it for my 6 & 8 year old kids. They LOVED it. Maddie and Jack are twins with a destiny that their parents are going to tell them about on their 13th birthday. That all comes to a screeching halt when their parents are taken. Uncle Benny is there and takes the twins to safety but then has to explain about magic and why their parents were taken.
I really liked the characters in this book. Honestly, Maddie seemed naive and Jack was too full of himself, but then again, they are 13! There was action, a touch of potential romance, and lots of love for family in this book. It isn't a long book but it kept both kids' attention throughout and they were begging for book 2 as soon as we finished this one.
5/5 for me. I love that this book is clean and interesting enough to keep both mine and my kids' attention.
I won this book in a giveaway from the author so Thank you!

Fearless Little Werewolf by Katie Salidas
Book Description:
The death of the Regional Alpha exposes Giselle to the deadly game of werewolf politics where friends are liabilities, boyfriends are weaknesses, and family are pawns strategically played against her.
Finding her fur-ever family, after years lost in the foster care system, brought more drama than little werewolf Giselle had bargained for, especially when it’s discovered she’s the long lost daughter of the former Regional Alpha, Orion Silverman.
After the current Alpha’s death, Giselle is suddenly thrust into the brutal arena to prove herself. Her veins might run with the blood of Alphas, but all her enemies can see is a legacy of human weakness, and they’ll do anything to prevent this feral pup from taking leadership.
In the game of Alphas, claiming the title is the greatest prize, one which most would kill to achieve. But for Giselle to win, she’ll have to risk her pack, her family… and her life.
My Thoughts:
This was an amazing book. It is the third in the little werewolf series and I think now my favorite. Giselle is going to be the Regional Alpha, or maybe not. Wolfy politics are not her strong suit. There seems to be a group that doesn't want her to succeed. I was thrilled to be back in the werewolf world. I love the characters that Salidas has created and made come to life.
I also loved getting to see some old characters from her earlier vampire series. That makes me want more from them too. The story had plenty to keep you interested. A feuding family, fights, love, family, heartbreak. It was all I'm there and skillfully written. The characters are ones you fall in love with and want to follow more with what happens to them. If you want a good read, you need to read this series.
5/5 for me. I suggest you read the first two in the series first but this one is great! I just can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!
Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

In Safe Hands by Katie Ruggle
Book Description
In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder...
It's all come down to this...
Daisy Little has lived in agoraphobic terror for over eight years. Trapped within a prison of her own making, she watches time pass through her bedroom window. Daisy knows she'll never be a part of the world...until the day she becomes the sole witness of a terrible crime that may finally tear the Search and Rescue brotherhood apart for good.
My Thoughts:
Totally enjoyed this book. Daisy has a problem. Going outside her house terrifies her and I felt so bad for her. Being cooped up all day because of a fear had to be so horrible. This stems from witnessing a horrible crime when she was a teenager. The only time she interacts with people is when they come to her house, and then there is a specific way to come into the house. She only gets a few visitors (2) and one is her dad. Chris is the other and wow is he hot. When she witnesses the removal of a dead body is when her life starts getting interesting and I loved watching it unfold!
I really liked how protective Chris is of her and how he wants to help her but doesn't want to push too hard. Their training together is absolutely cool. The twists in their past explain why he is there but somewhat keeps his distance. I somewhat liked knowing who the bad guy was from the start but it made me want to yell at the characters sometimes for how they were handling him!
It was a 5/5 for me but I say you have to read the other search and rescue books too!

As long as you can come home
Laurel Payne understands far too well what Jake is going through, after witnessing her late husband experience similar problems. She's in no hurry to jump into another relationship with a complicated guy, but their attraction is undeniable-and perhaps exactly what both of them need.

My Thoughts:
I love Sharon Sala's books! Jake has come home after getting out of the Marines and having some problems. Laurel knows all about soldiers and the issues they have when coming home from war. Her late husband had the issues and couldn't handle it. She doesn't really want to get involved anyone and neither does Jake but there is an attraction there. I liked that the two of them were so realistic as were the problems they were facing.
Laurel's in-laws are terrible. I completely disliked her mother-in-law and just wanted to smack her (hard!). I loved how Jake was with her daughter though. He was protective, kind and just a great guy. The people of Blessings are still great and it is wonderful to come back and visit with them.
It was a 5/5 for me. I love Blessings, Georgia.
