The 1920s are drawing to a close, and feisty Katie O'Connor is the epitome of the new woman--smart and sassy with goals for her future that include the perfect husband and a challenging career in law. Her boyfriend Jake fits all of her criteria for a husband--good-looking, well-connected, wealthy, and head-over-heels in love with her. But when she is forced to spend the summer of 1929 with Luke McGee, the bane of her childhood existence, Katie comes face to face with a choice. Will she follow her well-laid plans to marry Jake? Or will she fall for the man she swore to despise forever?
My Thoughts:
This was a great book! Katie is a woman who knows what she wants in life. She wants a husband that isn't controlling and to be a lawyer. Jack is her boyfriend and he is exactly what she thinks she wants. He has money, connections and his father is a lawyer. Luke is exactly the opposite of what she thinks she wants. He was the bane of her existance as a child and has since grown into a man that doesn't fall for her charms, is an attorney, and is an all around good guy. The question that spins you through the book is which man will she choose...the one good for her career or the one good for her?
I have to tell yo that I didn't like Katie in the beginning, or Jack for that matter. The writing is really what kept me going. The author is wonderful at spinning a story that is so vivd and most all the other characters drew me to them. Luke I loved from the first and Patrick reminded me of my grandfather so I really enjoyed his character! The setting was so real to me, I could see the house and feel the character's emotions, most especially Katie's. I didn't enjoy her defiance and desire to sneak around, but she 'grew up' and grew on me and now is a beloved character! A wonderful emotional ride and one I plan to take again!
This book is ranked 5/5 for me. It was a good read and going to stay on my keeper shelf. I also look forward to the next in the series.

Hey Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI just finished this book as well and loved it! I had to laugh at times and cry at times. Especially when Luke's friend(I can't think of his name right now for the life of me) turns and walks away from Katie. It was so heartbreaking!! Julie can sure bring out the emotions:)
