The Unwanted (The Unwanted Trilogy Book 1) by Daniel L. Carter

Book Description
An explosion shatters the night sky...
Smoke and flames erupt over the city of Chicago. FBI Agent Nick Catlin watches helplessly as their only lead straps on a glider and leaps off a high rooftop, soaring toward Lake Michigan. They've lost him, again. The crimes scenes always fit the patter - five babies are among the casualties. Fourteen months later, though, in New York, no infant bodies are found. Nick's gut tells him the killer was somehow interrupted in his work and won't stop until he tracks down those children and finishes what he started.
Oklahoma rancher Leigh Barrus is barely making ends meet when his estranged niece, Janet, shows up at his ranch with five babies in tow. The terrifying tale she tells him about genetic experiments is only the beginning of the shocking truths...
A gripping sci-fi thriller for all ages.

My Thoughts:
I now have a new obsession! This book was AMAZING! I started reading and just got pulled into the story and couldn't put it down. FBI agent, Nick, is tracking down basically a 'serial' killer, only not in the normal sense. Each crime scene has a number of bodies and always five infants...except the last one. The infants are missing and that is his big break, only he can't find them and there is a traitor in the FBI. Janet is a nurse who saves the five children, along with a colleague, and runs home to her uncle, Leigh. Leigh has enough difficulties without adding to them but he gladly helps her and the babies. As the story unfolds, truths are learned and amazing things happen to show how unique these children are and why someone wants them back so much....
I am in love with this little family. I now have a picture of each of them etched in my mind. The author did such a wonderful job with his descriptions that I could 'see' the whole thing happening. Janet is such a strong woman taking on these five special kids. Leigh is so giving and caring, he shows what a real Christian should be. Each of the kids is so endearing and unique. Sampson has to be my favorite, or maybe Anna, or Angie, could be any of them really! Marcus and Zach are wonderful and so hard headed. I laughed, got angry, felt their fear, and even cried while reading this book. The best thing about it, is it is a Christian Fiction. Amazingly fun but heart wrenching, brilliant mix of characters and emotions. Perfect set up for the second in the trilogy and I can't wait to read it!
Hands down a 5/5. I have this book on ebook and am going to order a paper copy to put on my keeper shelf!
