Curious Little Werewolf by Katie Salidas

Curious Little Werewolf (Little Werewolf, #2)Book Description:
Things would be perfect if supernatural disasters would quit creeping up and ruining Giselle’s happy new life. After finally finding the fur-ever home she’s always wanted a witch blows into town promising to reveal the bloody past of Giselle’s birth, and the circumstances that led the little werewolf to end up in the foster care system to begin with.
Hot on the witch’s trail, another pack of wolves is on the hunt for revenge, and will accept nothing less than her death in retribution for the havoc she’s wrought on them.
Caught in the crossfire, Giselle desires only the truth, and if the witch is who she claims to be, the little werewolf must protect her at any cost. If she’s lying, though, Giselle risks her own kind seeing her as a traitor. Neither her new pack nor her hottie witch boyfriend Damien can offer any help. Giselle is on her own again. And if she makes the wrong decision, she’ll lose the only link she has to her own past.

My Thoughts:
I read Pretty Little Werewolf last year and fell in love with the characters.  I was so excited when I heard the was going to be a sequel and couldn't wait to read it.  Giselle isn't ready for school to start back and is grouchy.  That is doubled when a strange witch shows up and is interested in her.  Giselle has always wanted to know how she wound up in the system and this woman spins an intriguing tell.  BUT both the local witches and the wolves tell Giselle to stay away and are extremely secretive about details.  That just makes Giselle more determined than ever to figure out the mystery.
First off, Giselle, her two sisters, and her friends are wonderful characters.  While they don't always get along, and some don't even like each other, they are there for her when even her adoptive parents don't trust her.  The story is intriguing and I was curious, like Giselle, if it was even possible.  Watching Giselle work things through and  who she turned to and how she grew even in this story was interesting.  She believes she is still a lone wolf but everyone else sees that there is so much more to her.  There are still a couple of things up in the air with the story that I hope will be answered in another book!
It was a 5/5 for me.  I cannot wait to see what happens next in Giselle's life!

My Thoughts:
This is a small book but it will have a big impact.  My favorite part was how the author points out that we are worth it all to God.  We may not feel worthy, but He loves us anyway.  The key is to trust God and believe Him.  We are a work in progress and God is never finished with us.
The book flows wonderfully and once you read it, you will realize God wants you to be happy and wants you to excel.  You are a child of the King.  I really love the feeling I get when I read this book.  As I said it isn't a long book, but it is one you will want to keep.
This was a 5/5 for me.  I recommend it for anyone wanting a closer walk with God.

Wind rattled the wooden shutter on the open window, banging it against the home. An annoying sound, and no one came to close it. Why? The bang echoed through the silent forest. Where were the owls, or even a wolf? Uneasiness filled each of my steps as we slowly walked to the door. I expected an arrow to come flying my way. Two strangers knocking on the door of a secluded cabin in the middle of the night … how could we not get an arrow in the face?
Raven stayed behind me, her hands resting on the hilts of her daggers. My palms sweat and my mouth went dry. I wanted my sword in my hands, but if I approached while holding a weapon, they might attack. Holding my breath, I knocked on the door, and it swayed open beneath my touch. A stringent odor wafted out from the cabin and I covered my nose.

“I can’t hit on my professor! Wait – do I call him my professor? Is that what he is?” And how hot was hot? There were various levels: warm, steamy, uber, and lava.
“I’d let him call me anything he wanted. It’s kind of kinky. Call him ‘professor’ and see if he likes it.”
“Ava!”
She giggled and leaned her head onto the rest. “Spank me, professor!” she moaned loudly. She was completely entitled to the slap I gave her arm. “Ouch! Damn it, Lexie!”
“You asked for a spanking.”
A middle-aged man with peppered hair and a beer belly shifted in his seat across the aisle. “You can spank me if you want.”
“Negatory on that,” I replied, looking to Ava for help. She pursed her lips to contain the laughter dancing in her eyes. Benedict Arnold. I needed a new wing woman.

Sister Dear by Laura McNeill

Sister DearBook Description:
All Allie Marshall wants is a fresh start.  But when dark secrets refuse to stay buried, will her chance at a new life be shattered forever?

Convicted of a crime she didn’t commit, Allie watched a decade of her life vanish – time that can never be recovered. Now, out on parole, Allie is determined to clear her name, rebuild her life, and reconnect with the daughter she barely knows.

But Allie’s return home shatters the quaint, coastal community of Brunswick, Georgia. Even her own daughter Caroline, now a teenager, bristles at Allie’s claims of innocence. Refusing defeat, a stronger, smarter Allie launches a battle for the truth, digging deeply into the past even if it threatens her parole status, personal safety, and the already-fragile bond with family.

As her commitment to finding the truth intensifies, what Allie ultimately uncovers is far worse than she imagined. Her own sister has been hiding a dark secret—one that holds the key to Allie’s freedom.

My Thoughts:
This one...wow!  Allie was convicted of a crime she didn't commit.  She is out on parole and determined to prove her innocence.  She goes home and encounters a lot of prejudice.  As she searches to find the truth, things get far worse than she expected.
When I started reading this, I was afraid it was going to be a slow book.  While it started that way, it didn't stay that way long.  Allie is a mother, but her daughter was young when she went to prison and has been being raised by her sister.  Her sister...yeah, just yeah.  The author does a great job with the characters and making them realistic.  I liked the way the story switched from past to present and the way the story unfolded.  I think this is definitely a story that will stay with you after you put the book down!
This was a 4/5 for me.  It started a bit slow but once you get into it, the book flies by!

If I Run by Terri Blackstock

If I Run (If I Run #1)Book Description:
Casey knows the truth.
But it won’t set her free.
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.
But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?
Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

My Thoughts:
Great start to a new series!  Casey's best friend is murdered and she is the prime suspect.  She goes on the run and is searching for the truth.  Dylan has PTSD but is hired to find Casey so justice can be served.  The more he looks into it, the more it doesn't add up.  Casey doesn't seem like a killer.  Casey is having to stay one step ahead to stay alive and free.  Her own search is bringing more questions than answers.
I love the characters the author brings to us in this book.  Dylan is damaged but so amazing.   Casey is so smart and has been through so much.  The story grabs you at the start and you won't want to put it down until the end.  There were several twists that caught me off guard and I HAD to find out what happened next.  So not thrilled with the ending but impatiently waiting for the next book in the series to come out!
It was a 5/5 for me and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

A Robertson Family Christmas by Miss Kay Robertson and Travis Thrasher

A Robertson Family ChristmasBook Description:
A nationwide contest gives a needy child the opportunity to spend Christmas with the Robertsons. A junior high kid from a poor family wins, and all things look wonderful--except for the fact that the boy is a complete terror. But he'll have to learn the hard way after the Robertsons get through with him.A heartwarming and hilarious story on the meaning of Christmas and what it's like to spend it with the Robertsons of Duck Commander.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this story.  It is a novella written by Miss Kay Robertson about a kid who wins a Christmas with the famous Robertson crew.  He was having issues in his own family but he never expected to spend the holidays with a bunch of strangers.  He wants nothing to do with the 'ways' of the Robertsons and he can't help but compare their family to his.  The longer he is there the more you see the change.
I love the show but don't get to watch it as much as I would like.  This story captures perfectly the interactions between the family.  There is love, laughter, and God.  I really enjoyed watching the change in Hunter as the story progressed.  He has some pretty big problems to deal with but spending time with the Robertsons helps him.
It was a 5/5 for me.
