Princess and Missy's Magical Adventrues: The Crystal Heart by Michelle Nicole Martin

Book Description:
It's a scary day for a happy little dog named Princess when her family suddenly disappears. But Princess doesn't give up! Follow Princess as her loving spirit leads her to an enchanted forest full of wonderful surprises. Share her excitement when seh meets Missy, the magical butterfly who gives Princess the Crystal Heart and asks for Princess' help to accomplish her important work. Will Missy and Princess be able to overcome the wicked plans of Jaith the Joy Stealer? Find out as Princess and her new friends set forth on a magical adventure!

My Thoughts:
Hmmmm....I'm still not overly sure how I feel about this book. Princess loses her family and becomes homeless. Through her good deeds, she meets Missy, the magical butterfly, who gives her a magical crystal heart. Princess learns that Jaith the Joy Stealer likes to mess up Missy's happy deeds and has now focused on thwarting Princess' goodness!
I liked the magical aspect of this book, it was really cute, and that Princess' group uses theirs only for good. The book introduces several somewhat heavy topics for children: homelessness, being laid off, foreclosure, poverty and several similar topics. I know they are real life subjects and that children shouldn't be shielded from them, but it seemed a lot for one little book. I also didn't get that Princess HAD to find her family at the start and that just kinda gets forgotten toward the end because she has a new family. (maybe the author is going to continue the search in the next book?) Either way, it is a cute little book, the illustrations are very good and the story is a definite good vs evil that all children enjoy.
I rate this a 3/5. It is probably for children 7 and up. They would understand the complexities of the story and enjoy the magic!

Thank you to Bostick for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
